Fine jewelry is made to be worn and lived with, but even precious materials change with time, movement and use.
Proper care helps preserve the beauty, structure and longevity of a piece and may reduce avoidable wear or damage.
This page provides general care guidance for Tatiana Marques Jewelry pieces. Because jewelry construction, gemstones, finishes and individual wear patterns vary significantly, specific instructions supplied for an individual piece should always take priority over general guidance.
This page should be read together with the Terms & Conditions, Jewelry Certification & Hallmarking, and Returns, Cancellations & Consumer Rights Policy.
1. GENERAL CARE PRINCIPLES
Jewelry should be handled with reasonable care and stored in a way that limits unnecessary abrasion, impact, moisture, chemical exposure and tangling.
As a general rule, jewelry should be removed before activities that may expose it to avoidable stress, impact, friction or chemicals.
This may include:
- sport and exercise;
- heavy manual work;
- gardening;
- household cleaning;
- swimming;
- bathing;
- sleeping, where the construction or gemstones make this advisable;
- and activities involving tools, machinery or repeated pressure on the hands.
Different pieces tolerate different levels of wear.
A substantial plain gold wedding band may be suitable for frequent daily wear, while an opal ring, delicate pendant or intricately set gemstone piece may require significantly greater care.
2. JEWELRY IS NOT INDESTRUCTIBLE
Gold, platinum, gemstones and other precious materials are durable, but they are not indestructible.
Precious metals can scratch, bend, deform or wear.
Gemstones can chip, fracture, abrade, loosen or, in some cases, react adversely to heat, chemicals or cleaning methods.
Clasps, chains, prongs, hinges and moving components are subject to mechanical wear.
The fact that a piece is made from precious materials does not mean that it can be worn in every situation without risk.
3. NORMAL WEAR
Jewelry develops signs of use over time.
Depending on the piece, normal wear may include:
surface scratches;
gradual softening of a high polish;
changes to matte, satin or brushed finishes;
wear to engraving or texture;
gradual wear to rhodium or plating;
small marks caused by contact with other objects;
and normal wear to clasps, chains, prongs and moving components.
These changes are part of the physical life of jewelry and do not automatically indicate a manufacturing defect.
4. WHEN TO REMOVE YOUR JEWELRY
Tatiana Marques Jewelry recommends removing jewelry before activities that may expose it to unnecessary impact, force, chemicals or abrasion.
Particular care should be taken when:
lifting heavy objects;
using gym equipment;
working with tools;
carrying luggage;
performing manual work;
using cleaning products;
handling chlorine or bleach;
swimming in pools;
entering hot tubs;
or participating in contact sports.
Rings are particularly vulnerable to deformation because they are frequently exposed to direct pressure from the hand.
5. HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS
Household chemicals may affect metals, gemstones, plating and surface finishes.
Jewelry should generally be removed before using products containing substances such as:
bleach;
chlorine;
strong acids;
alkaline cleaning agents;
solvents;
or abrasive cleaning compounds.
Repeated chemical exposure may damage or alter certain alloys, gemstone treatments, finishes or plated surfaces.
6. COSMETICS, PERFUME AND PERSONAL CARE PRODUCTS
Perfume, hairspray, cosmetics, creams, oils and other personal care products may leave residue on jewelry.
Some may also affect sensitive gemstones, pearls or surface treatments.
As a general habit:
jewelry should be one of the last things you put on and one of the first things you remove.
Allow perfumes, creams and other products to dry before putting on jewelry where possible.
7. SWEAT AND DAILY WEAR
Perspiration varies from person to person and may contain salts, oils and other compounds.
Over time, perspiration and skin products may accumulate on jewelry and around gemstone settings.
Regular gentle cleaning can help prevent the build up of residue.
Pieces worn daily may benefit from more frequent inspection than jewelry worn occasionally.
8. SWIMMING
Tatiana Marques Jewelry generally recommends removing fine jewelry before swimming.
Chlorinated water may affect certain metals, finishes and gemstones.
Salt water may also leave deposits and increases the risk of losing jewelry because fingers can shrink temporarily in cold water and clasps may be difficult to detect if they open.
Swimming with rings, bracelets, necklaces or earrings is therefore not recommended.
9. SHOWERING AND BATHING
Although some plain gold jewelry may tolerate water, showering while wearing jewelry is not generally recommended as a routine habit.
Soap, shampoo, conditioner and body products can accumulate on jewelry and around settings.
Jewelry containing pearls, opals, delicate stones, adhesives or certain surface treatments may require particular caution around water.
10. SLEEPING IN JEWELRY
Sleeping in jewelry may expose it to repeated pressure, pulling, friction and tangling.
Fine chains, earrings, prongs and delicate settings can be particularly vulnerable.
Whether a piece should routinely be removed before sleep depends on its design and construction, but removal is generally the safer option for delicate jewelry.
11. STORAGE
Jewelry should be stored clean and dry.
Pieces should ideally be stored separately or in individual compartments to reduce scratching and tangling.
Diamonds and other harder gemstones can scratch metals and softer gemstones when stored in direct contact.
Chains should be stored in a way that reduces knotting.
Jewelry should not be left loose in handbags, drawers or containers where multiple pieces can repeatedly strike one another.
12. ORIGINAL PACKAGING
Tatiana Marques Jewelry presentation packaging may be used for storage where appropriate.
However, jewelry should not be stored while wet or contaminated with cosmetics, chemicals or heavy residue.
For long term storage, ensure the piece is clean and dry.
Where specific materials require different storage conditions, piece specific guidance may be supplied.
13. POLISHING CLOTHS
A jewelry polishing cloth may be used for appropriate metal surfaces to remove light surface residue and help refresh shine.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may supply or recommend a Tatiana Marques Jewelry polishing cloth as part of the care of suitable pieces.
Polishing cloths should only be used on surfaces for which they are appropriate.
They should not automatically be used on:
delicate gemstones;
pearls;
porous materials;
intentional oxidation or patina;
delicate plating;
enamel;
or another surface that may be altered by polishing.
A polishing cloth is not a substitute for professional refinishing where a piece has deep scratches, deformation or significant wear.
14. JEWELRY CLEANING SOLUTIONS
Certain jewelry may be suitable for cleaning using a dedicated jewelry cleaning solution.
A liquid cleaner suitable for plain gold and diamonds is not automatically suitable for every gemstone or finish.
Care products should therefore only be used where their suitability for the particular piece has been confirmed.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may supply or recommend an appropriate cleaning solution for selected jewelry.
The brand of any recommended care product may change over time.
15. PROFESSIONAL CLEANING PRODUCTS
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may use or recommend professional jewelry care products, including specialist cleaning liquids or polishing products, according to the materials and characteristics of the piece.
The inclusion or recommendation of a particular third party cleaning product does not mean that the same product is suitable for all Tatiana Marques Jewelry pieces.
Always follow the instructions supplied with the care product and any piece specific guidance provided by Tatiana Marques Jewelry.
16. SIMPLE GOLD JEWELRY
Plain gold jewelry without delicate gemstones or sensitive finishes can often be cleaned gently at home.
Where appropriate, this may involve:
lukewarm water;
a mild soap;
a very soft brush;
gentle rinsing;
and thorough drying with a soft lint free cloth.
Avoid abrasive powders, hard brushes and harsh chemical cleaners.
Professional cleaning may still be appropriate where dirt has accumulated in inaccessible areas or the piece requires refinishing.
17. GOLD WEDDING BANDS
Gold wedding bands are intended for regular wear, but daily use naturally produces marks and changes to the surface.
Polished bands generally develop fine scratches.
Matte, brushed or textured finishes may gradually become smoother or develop areas of shine through friction.
This does not mean the ring has lost its original finish irreversibly.
Many finishes can be professionally refreshed when technically appropriate.
However, frequent refinishing is not always desirable because polishing and resurfacing involve removal of a small amount of metal.
18. WHITE GOLD
White gold is a gold alloy and is not naturally identical in appearance to rhodium.
Depending on the alloy, unplated white gold may have a warmer, greyer or slightly yellowish undertone.
Some white gold pieces are rhodium plated to create a brighter white surface.
Where rhodium is present, its gradual wear is normal.
19. RHODIUM PLATING
Rhodium plating is a surface treatment and is not permanent.
Its longevity depends on:
how often the piece is worn;
friction;
skin chemistry;
contact with chemicals;
the location of the plated surface;
and the construction of the piece.
Rings generally show rhodium wear more quickly than earrings or pendants because they experience greater friction.
When rhodium wears, the underlying white gold may gradually become visible.
This is not, by itself, a defect in the gold.
Rhodium plating can usually be renewed where technically appropriate.
20. GOLD PLATING
Gold plating, including yellow, rose or red gold plating, is also a surface treatment.
Plated layers wear gradually with friction and use.
Areas in frequent contact with skin, clothing or other surfaces may wear first.
Jewelry should be protected from abrasive cleaning and unnecessary chemical exposure.
Replating may be required periodically.
21. OXIDATION AND PATINA
Some jewelry may use intentional oxidation or patination to create darkened or contrasting areas.
These finishes may evolve through wear.
Polishing or aggressive cleaning can lighten or remove an oxidised finish.
Do not use a polishing cloth on intentionally oxidised areas unless Tatiana Marques Jewelry has specifically confirmed that it is appropriate.
22. MATTE, SATIN AND BRUSHED FINISHES
Matte, satin and brushed surfaces naturally change through friction.
Contact with clothing, skin and surrounding objects may create brighter or smoother areas over time.
These changes form part of normal wear.
Professional refinishing may restore the intended surface where appropriate.
23. TEXTURED AND HAND ENGRAVED SURFACES
Hand engraving and texture create fine surface details.
Repeated polishing can gradually soften these details.
Textured or engraved pieces should therefore not be aggressively polished.
Where refinishing is required, Tatiana Marques Jewelry may adapt the method to preserve the decorative work as far as technically possible.
24. DIAMONDS
Diamonds are extremely hard and resistant to scratching, but hardness should not be confused with indestructibility.
A diamond can still chip or fracture if struck at a vulnerable point.
Diamond jewelry should therefore be protected from strong impact.
Diamonds can also accumulate oils and residue, reducing their apparent brilliance.
Suitable diamond and gold jewelry may be cleaned with an appropriate jewelry solution or professional cleaning method.
25. DIAMOND SETTINGS
The gemstone may be extremely durable while the metal setting surrounding it is subject to wear.
Prongs, claws, bezels and other setting components can gradually thin, move or become damaged.
A loose diamond should not continue to be worn.
If movement, clicking or an altered setting is noticed, contact Tatiana Marques Jewelry for inspection.
26. SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES
Sapphires and rubies are varieties of corundum and are generally suitable for frequent wear.
However, they can still chip or fracture under sufficient impact.
Any known treatment, inclusions or individual characteristics may affect the care appropriate to a particular gemstone.
Avoid assuming that every sapphire or ruby can be exposed safely to every cleaning process.
27. EMERALDS
Emeralds commonly contain inclusions and fissures and may be more vulnerable to impact than diamonds or sapphires.
Many emeralds are treated with oils or other substances to improve the appearance of surface reaching fissures.
Emerald jewelry should generally be treated with particular care.
Avoid:
ultrasonic cleaning unless specifically approved;
steam cleaning unless specifically approved;
strong heat;
harsh chemicals;
and unnecessary impact.
Gentle professional cleaning is generally preferable.
28. OPALS
Opals require particular care.
They may contain significant water content and can be sensitive to:
rapid temperature change;
heat;
dry conditions;
impact;
and certain chemicals.
Opals are also comparatively softer than many traditional fine jewelry gemstones.
Avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaning unless a qualified professional has specifically assessed the individual stone and process.
Do not use generic jewelry cleaning liquids on opals unless the product has been expressly confirmed as suitable.
29. PEARLS
Pearls are organic gem materials and are significantly more delicate than many mineral gemstones.
Their surface can be damaged by:
perfume;
hairspray;
cosmetics;
acids;
abrasion;
perspiration;
and inappropriate cleaning products.
Pearls should generally be put on after cosmetics and perfume have been applied and allowed to dry.
After wear, they may be gently wiped with a clean, soft cloth.
Do not use an ordinary metal polishing cloth or generic jewelry dipping solution on pearls.
30. PEARL STRANDS
Pearl necklaces and bracelets may be strung using silk or another suitable stringing material.
The string can stretch, weaken or accumulate residue over time.
Frequently worn pearl strands should be inspected periodically.
Restringing may be recommended if the string becomes visibly stretched, dirty, frayed or otherwise compromised.
31. AMETHYST
Amethyst is suitable for many jewelry applications but should still be protected from hard impact and abrasive contact.
Prolonged or intense exposure to heat or light can affect some amethyst colour.
Care should therefore favour mild cleaning and reasonable protection.
32. PERIDOT
Peridot is softer and less resistant to impact than diamond, sapphire or ruby.
It can scratch and may be vulnerable to rapid temperature changes.
Avoid ultrasonic or steam cleaning unless specifically approved for the piece.
Use gentle cleaning methods.
33. TOURMALINE
Tourmaline can be suitable for regular jewelry wear but should be protected from strong impact and abrupt temperature changes.
Some tourmalines may contain inclusions that affect their resistance to shock.
Gentle cleaning is generally recommended.
34. AQUAMARINE AND BERYL
Aquamarine and other beryl gemstones can provide good durability in jewelry, but they should still be protected from strong impact and inappropriate thermal or chemical exposure.
Internal inclusions may affect the individual stone's toughness.
35. TOPAZ
Topaz can have good hardness but possesses pronounced cleavage.
This means it can split or fracture when struck in particular directions despite resisting ordinary surface scratching relatively well.
Protect topaz jewelry from hard knocks and sudden impact.
36. QUARTZ AND OTHER GEMSTONES
Quartz varieties and many other coloured gemstones vary in durability, treatments and sensitivity.
Do not assume that a care method suitable for diamonds is suitable for every coloured stone.
Where there is uncertainty about a gemstone, contact Tatiana Marques Jewelry before using a chemical cleaner, ultrasonic machine, steam cleaner or abrasive polishing product.
37. ORGANIC AND POROUS MATERIALS
Materials such as pearls, coral and certain other organic or porous gem materials may be especially sensitive to chemicals, moisture, heat and abrasion.
Care instructions should therefore be determined according to the specific material.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry will not recommend a universal liquid cleaner for these materials.
38. TREATED GEMSTONES
Certain gemstones may have undergone treatment.
Treatments can affect appropriate cleaning methods.
Examples may include oiling, filling, coating, dyeing, heat treatment or other processes.
Where treatment is known and relevant, care recommendations should take it into account.
For client supplied gemstones with unknown history, conservative care is advisable.
39. LABORATORY GROWN GEMSTONES
A laboratory grown gemstone should be cared for according to its actual material properties and treatments, not simply according to the fact that it was laboratory grown.
For example, a laboratory grown diamond has the material properties of diamond, while other laboratory grown gem materials may have different care requirements.
Any supplied gemological documentation should be retained with the jewelry records.
40. ENAMEL
Enamel can chip, fracture or abrade under impact.
Avoid bending an enamelled piece and protect it from hard knocks.
Do not use abrasive polishing materials over enamel.
Cleaning should be gentle and appropriate to the specific construction.
41. GLUED COMPONENTS
Some jewelry, particularly older or external jewelry, may contain components secured with adhesives.
Heat, solvents, immersion and ultrasonic cleaning can compromise certain adhesives.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry should be informed if adhesive construction is known or suspected before professional cleaning or repair.
42. ULTRASONIC CLEANING
Ultrasonic cleaners use high frequency vibration in a liquid medium to help remove residue.
They are effective for certain jewelry but are not universally safe.
Ultrasonic cleaning may be unsuitable for:
pearls;
opals;
emeralds;
certain treated gemstones;
heavily included stones;
fragile settings;
glued components;
some antique jewelry;
and pieces with existing structural weakness.
A home ultrasonic cleaner should therefore not be used simply because a piece contains gold or diamonds.
If in doubt, ask Tatiana Marques Jewelry first.
43. STEAM CLEANING
Steam cleaning uses high heat and pressure.
It can be appropriate for certain durable gemstones and constructions but unsuitable for heat sensitive, treated, included or fragile stones.
Steam cleaning should not be treated as a universal jewelry care method.
44. PROFESSIONAL CLEANING
Professional cleaning allows the method to be selected according to the actual materials, gemstones and condition of the piece.
A professional cleaning appointment may involve one or more processes, but cleaning does not automatically include polishing, refinishing, rhodium plating or repair.
The work included will be confirmed according to the individual piece.
45. POLISHING AND REFINISHING
Professional polishing may reduce superficial scratches and restore shine.
However, polishing removes a very small amount of metal.
For this reason, Tatiana Marques Jewelry does not recommend aggressive or unnecessarily frequent polishing.
Deep dents, scratches or deformation may require more extensive refinishing and may not always be removable without altering the piece.
46. MAINTENANCE INSPECTIONS
Regular inspection is particularly important for jewelry containing gemstones or mechanical components.
Inspection may include checking:
prongs;
bezels;
settings;
stone movement;
clasps;
jump rings;
chains;
hinges;
solder joints;
and general structural condition.
The appropriate inspection frequency depends on the piece and how it is worn.
47. FREQUENTLY WORN GEMSTONE RINGS
Engagement rings and other gemstone rings worn every day experience repeated contact, friction and accidental impact.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry recommends periodic professional inspection of frequently worn gemstone rings.
A practical general guideline is to consider inspection approximately once a year, or sooner where the ring experiences heavy use or a possible impact.
This is a maintenance recommendation, not a condition of the statutory legal guarantee.
48. AFTER AN IMPACT
A piece may appear visually intact after an impact while a setting has shifted or a gemstone has developed damage.
If a ring or gemstone jewelry receives a significant knock, professional inspection is advisable before continued use where there is any doubt about its condition.
Look for signs such as:
movement;
rattling or clicking;
a changed stone position;
bent prongs;
visible gaps;
cracks;
or an altered shape.
49. LOOSE GEMSTONES
Do not continue wearing a piece if a gemstone appears loose.
Continued wear may turn a minor setting issue into the loss of a stone.
Place the jewelry somewhere secure and contact Tatiana Marques Jewelry for assessment.
50. BENT OR DEFORMED JEWELRY
If a ring, prong, clasp or other component becomes visibly bent, avoid trying to force it back into shape at home.
Metal that has deformed may have been work hardened, weakened or damaged in a way that requires professional assessment.
Repeated bending can increase the risk of fracture.
51. BROKEN CHAINS AND CLASPS
Do not continue wearing a necklace or bracelet with a compromised chain, clasp or connecting ring.
Small components carry the load of the entire piece and can fail suddenly once damaged.
Professional repair may involve soldering, laser welding, replacement of components or another appropriate technique.
52. RESIZING
Ring size can change over time because of weight variation, temperature, pregnancy, swelling, medication or other physiological factors.
A ring that becomes too tight or excessively loose should be assessed before prolonged wear causes discomfort or increases the risk of loss.
Not every ring can be resized indefinitely or by large amounts.
The feasibility depends on design, gemstones, engraving and construction.
53. ENGRAVING AND WEAR
Engraving is part of the surface of the metal and therefore experiences wear.
Hand engraving may gradually soften after many years of use or repeated polishing.
Where preservation of engraving is important, inform Tatiana Marques Jewelry before any refinishing service.
54. WHITE GOLD AND RHODIUM MAINTENANCE
The need for renewed rhodium plating depends entirely on wear and personal preference.
There is no universal schedule.
Some clients may prefer the appearance of the underlying white gold and choose not to replate regularly.
Others may prefer the brighter white appearance of fresh rhodium.
Rhodium should therefore be renewed according to the condition of the piece and desired appearance rather than automatically at a fixed interval.
55. REPLATING
Gold plating or rhodium plating should normally be carried out after the underlying surface has been assessed and appropriately prepared.
Depending on the condition, cleaning, polishing or refinishing may be necessary before replating.
Replating alone does not repair structural damage.
56. JEWELRY WITH CLIENT OWNED OR INHERITED STONES
Jewelry containing inherited or client supplied gemstones may require particularly conservative care where the gemstone history is unknown.
Previous treatments, chips, repairs or inclusions may not always be visible without specialist examination.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may recommend professional cleaning rather than home cleaning for these pieces.
57. ANTIQUE AND VINTAGE JEWELRY
Older jewelry may contain worn settings, previous solder repairs, fragile stones, adhesives or techniques different from modern construction.
A cleaning method suitable for new jewelry may therefore be inappropriate for an older piece.
External vintage or antique jewelry should be assessed before aggressive cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, steam cleaning or substantial polishing.
58. THIRD PARTY REPAIRS
Work carried out by another jeweler may alter:
metal thickness;
settings;
solder joints;
finishes;
gemstones;
or other technical characteristics.
If a Tatiana Marques Jewelry piece has been repaired or altered elsewhere, inform the atelier before later maintenance or repair.
Third party intervention does not automatically eliminate unrelated statutory consumer rights, but it may be relevant when determining the cause of subsequent damage.
59. HOME REPAIR
Clients should not attempt to repair precious jewelry using household adhesives, tools, pliers, soldering equipment or improvised methods.
Such interventions can increase damage and may make professional repair more difficult.
Loose stones or broken jewelry should be stored safely until professionally assessed.
60. CLEANING FREQUENCY
There is no single cleaning schedule suitable for all jewelry.
Frequency depends on:
how often the piece is worn;
the type of jewelry;
gemstones;
settings;
cosmetics;
skin oils;
and the environment in which it is worn.
A piece worn every day may benefit from gentle regular cleaning, while delicate jewelry may require less frequent and more specialised care.
61. PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE FREQUENCY
There is also no universal professional maintenance interval.
Frequently worn rings, particularly gemstone rings, may benefit from annual inspection.
Other pieces may need attention less often.
Maintenance should be based on the construction, use and observed condition of each piece.
62. CARE ACCESSORIES SUPPLIED WITH JEWELRY
Depending on the materials and characteristics of the piece, Tatiana Marques Jewelry may include or recommend appropriate care accessories.
These may include:
a Tatiana Marques Jewelry polishing cloth;
a suitable jewelry cleaning solution;
or other care materials appropriate to the piece.
Not every care accessory is appropriate for every jewel.
The fact that a product is supplied with one piece should not be interpreted as approval for its use on all jewelry.
63. USING THE TATIANA MARQUES JEWELRY POLISHING CLOTH
Where a Tatiana Marques Jewelry polishing cloth is supplied, use it gently on appropriate metal surfaces.
Do not use excessive pressure.
Avoid repeated rubbing of deliberately matte, textured, oxidised or plated areas unless this use has been expressly recommended.
Avoid direct use on delicate gemstones, pearls or other sensitive materials.
Store the cloth in a clean, dry place.
Polishing cloths may darken with use as they collect metal residue and surface contamination. This is normal.
64. WHEN A LIQUID CLEANER MAY BE APPROPRIATE
An appropriate liquid jewelry cleaner may be useful for certain gold and diamond jewelry where the gemstone, setting and finish are compatible.
For example, some gold and diamond pieces can tolerate specialist cleaning solutions designed for those materials.
However, a general liquid cleaner should not automatically be used on:
pearls;
opals;
emeralds;
porous gemstones;
treated gemstones;
delicate plating;
oxidised surfaces;
enamel;
glued components;
or gemstones of uncertain identity.
When uncertain, use only a soft cloth and contact Tatiana Marques Jewelry.
65. THIRD PARTY CARE PRODUCTS
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may recommend selected professional care products from third party manufacturers.
Product availability and brands may change over time.
Any third party product must be used according to the manufacturer's instructions and only where it is appropriate for the materials in the individual jewel.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry does not recommend treating a product marketed generally as “jewelry cleaner” as universally suitable for all fine jewelry.
66. CARE BEFORE STORAGE
Before storing jewelry for an extended period:
remove significant surface residue;
ensure the jewelry is dry;
close clasps where appropriate;
separate pieces to avoid abrasion;
and avoid excessive humidity or chemical exposure.
Sensitive materials may require more specific storage conditions.
67. TRAVEL
When travelling, jewelry should be transported securely.
Use a structured jewelry case, individual compartments or soft protective pouches where appropriate.
Avoid loose storage in handbags or luggage.
High value jewelry should not be left unattended in unsecured accommodation or luggage.
Where appropriate, insurance and secure storage arrangements should be considered separately.
68. INSURANCE
Care and maintenance reduce risk but cannot eliminate accidental loss, theft or damage.
For significant jewelry, clients may wish to consider appropriate insurance.
The Tatiana Marques Jewelry Certificate of Authenticity is not automatically an insurance valuation.
A separate appraisal may be required by an insurer.
69. DOCUMENTATION
Keep the following documentation where supplied:
Certificate of Authenticity
Independent Gemological Report
purchase documentation
service or repair records
Gemological reports should ideally be stored separately from the jewelry.
These documents may assist with future care, identification, insurance or service history.
70. LOSS OF A GEMSTONE
If a gemstone is lost, stop wearing the jewelry immediately.
If the stone is found, store it separately in a secure container and do not attempt to reset it at home.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry can assess:
the setting;
the cause of failure where reasonably determinable;
the condition of the recovered gemstone;
and available repair or replacement options.
Whether repair or replacement is covered by statutory conformity rights depends on the circumstances and cause of the loss.
71. CHANGES IN GEMSTONE APPEARANCE
A gemstone may sometimes appear different because of accumulated residue rather than permanent damage.
Diamonds in particular can lose apparent brilliance when oils accumulate on the surface.
Other gemstones may change appearance because of surface abrasion, treatment deterioration or damage.
If gentle appropriate cleaning does not restore the expected appearance, professional assessment is recommended.
72. CHANGES IN METAL COLOUR
Changes in the appearance of metal may arise from:
surface wear;
loss of plating;
oxidation;
residue;
contact with chemicals;
or the natural underlying colour of an alloy becoming more visible.
Professional assessment can distinguish between a surface treatment that requires renewal and another technical issue.
73. PROFESSIONAL REFINISHING IS OPTIONAL
A jewelry piece does not need to look completely new at all times.
Fine scratches and gradual surface change can become part of the history of a jewel.
Some clients prefer to preserve this natural patina of wear rather than repeatedly polish a piece.
Tatiana Marques Jewelry can advise whether refinishing is appropriate, but frequent polishing is not required simply for cosmetic reasons.
74. MAINTENANCE OF ONE OF A KIND AND BESPOKE PIECES
One of a Kind and bespoke jewelry may incorporate unusual gemstones, handcrafted textures or construction specific to the individual piece.
Maintenance should therefore consider the original design and technical records.
Where possible, returning the piece to Tatiana Marques Jewelry for significant maintenance helps preserve the original design intention and craftsmanship.
75. TATIANA MARQUES JEWELRY AFTERCARE
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may offer inspection, cleaning, polishing, refinishing, rhodium plating, resizing, setting repair and other aftercare services where appropriate.
The exact service required will be assessed individually.
Not every piece requires every service.
The meaning of common technical services is described in detail in the Terms & Conditions.
76. EXTERNAL JEWELRY
Tatiana Marques Jewelry may accept maintenance or repair of jewelry created by another jeweler selectively.
Before accepting external jewelry, the atelier may assess:
materials;
gemstones;
construction;
previous repairs;
technical risk;
and the requested result.
Acceptance is not automatic.
77. CARE AND THE LEGAL GUARANTEE
Following reasonable care guidance can help preserve jewelry, but care recommendations do not replace statutory consumer rights.
A consumer does not lose a valid conformity claim simply because jewelry develops an issue during ordinary appropriate use.
Likewise, the legal guarantee does not make the professional responsible for every later instance of normal wear, accident, misuse or external damage.
The cause and circumstances of an issue must be assessed.
Full information is available in the Returns, Cancellations & Consumer Rights Policy.
78. COMPLIMENTARY AFTERCARE
Where Tatiana Marques Jewelry offers a complimentary inspection, cleaning or other aftercare service, that service is a commercial benefit separate from the statutory legal guarantee.
Its existence, duration or conditions do not reduce mandatory consumer rights.
79. PIECE SPECIFIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Where a particular jewel contains unusual materials, sensitive gemstones, special finishes or another characteristic requiring specific care, Tatiana Marques Jewelry may provide individual instructions.
Those instructions should take priority over general advice on this page.
If there is any uncertainty, contact the atelier before using a cleaning product or process.
80. WHEN TO CONTACT TATIANA MARQUES JEWELRY
Contact Tatiana Marques Jewelry if:
a gemstone appears loose;
a prong or setting is bent;
a clasp becomes unreliable;
a chain breaks;
a ring becomes significantly deformed;
a gemstone chips or fractures;
a plated finish requires renewal;
you are unsure whether a cleaning product is safe;
the jewelry has sustained a significant impact;
or you would like a professional maintenance assessment.
Do not continue wearing a piece where doing so could reasonably worsen the problem or result in gemstone loss.
